A character collection works best when children can see what they have and return each item without guesswork. Start with play patterns rather than colour alone: tabletop games, travel toys and display pieces usually need different homes.
Group items by character or franchise, then split them by type and frequency of use. Clear labels help adults and children follow the same system. Keep small components in closed containers positioned according to the child’s age and access needs.
Place robust, frequently used pieces on an accessible shelf. Store packaging and instructions elsewhere in a dry place so they do not crowd the play area.
Offer a small selection at a time and swap it weekly or fortnightly. A rotation check is also a useful moment to locate missing parts, notice damage and review the age label.
Use the character name plus a functional cue such as “tabletop”, “travel” or “small parts”.
It is optional. Keeping a photo of instructions, warnings and the product code can be more space-efficient.
A quick review at seasonal changes or whenever a new item arrives is usually practical.
